Links (a-z)
Animals' Voice Online - A great site for anyone with an interest in the struggle to alleviate animal suffering and mistreatment in the world, what's going on globally, and what we can do about it. Highest recommendation.
Paul Ashford - Paul is an old friend of mine and was one of the pioneers of the Irish rock scene, having played with the legendary Chosen Few, The Emmet
Spiceland, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Furey Brothers. The great Dublin rock band Stepaside also featured Paul on bass & vocals. This is a link to The Paul Ashford Band website which is well worth a visit.
Eric Bell - A great guitarist,
true gent, very
funny guy and ex-Peggy's Leg member. This site is a must for Eric's fans, and is well presented by Quique from Spain.
Eric's favourite Jimi Slevin silly book title is 'Good Bible, by William'. This
one's a bit cryptic - so much so that Eric didn't get the joke until
quite recently, when he burst out laughing while seated with friends in a
restaurant! I used to write these for a pastime back in the Peggy's Leg days,
but wisely gave up the practice.
Garrett Brown - Original Jimi Slevin Band bassist and one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure work with,
Garrett is currently based in Dubai and playing music with one of the best local bands. He is a talented bassist and
dynamic live performer. This is Garrett's current e-mail contact. (July '05)
The Deans - The Deans are a rock band from Athenry in Ireland featuring brothers Gavin and Gary Dean on guitar and bass respectively.
Gavin is a fine player by any standards and for
his years a very fine player indeed, with a fast and clean style. I for one think Gavin will be doing great things in the future.
DPRP - The Dutch Progressive Rock Pages -
Fine site for anyone interested in progressive rock. Features
in-depth CD & concert reviews, band pages, polls, a forum and much much more. Highly recommended and great
reading for the discerning rock aficionado.
Brigitte Ebert - Ace graphic designer, Brigitte was responsible for
my CD graphics and layout and always did a great job.
Dick Farrelly - A superb guitarist and all round musician, Dick has recently worked with Hazel O'Connor, Mary
Coughlin and Van Morrison and is an old friend of mine (e-mail). You can see pics of Dick onstage in Moran's hotel
in the late '70s in galleries 2, 3, 4 & 6 on this website. These pics also feature Ditch Cassidy on vocals, Anto Drennan
[the Corrs] on guitar, (Irish) Ian Anderson on drums, and Garrett Brown on bass. The Ditch Cassidy All-Stars!
online shopping, chat, jokes (good ones), web design and much more. Definitely worth a visit.
Kieran Halpin - One of the most prolific singer/songwriters to come out of Ireland, Kieran is an outstanding live
performer and has recorded a string of well produced CDs of his own compositions, many of which have been covered by other artists. He tours Britain and Europe regularly where he's been accompanied on tour recently by the talented Maartin Allcock and currently by the equally talented Chris Jones - Chris
was Bachelors Walk's guest on their previous CD Train To Galway where we arranged and played a very alternative version of the well-known but usually murdered Spancil Hill. (Audio Samples page)
Alan Hayes
- Alan is a talented Dublin guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has played music all over the world. He has recently published a new website which features great audio samples of his new CD "Silk Stockings" which sees him in various musical roles in a laid back melodic jazzy style. I came to know Alan during my years in Dun
Laoghaire.
Günter Hetzner - A special thanks to Günter from
Obermichelbach, Germany, for all his help and advice during the
initial development of this website.
The Hubble Space Telescope More Galleries
- This was a
mid-Nineties stab at Bush and his shower of wasters on Capitol Hill: In its on-going and infinite wisdom, the Bush administration has decided to cut funding for the wonderful Hubble Space Telescope, instead offering to fund a project to dump it in the Pacific ocean by the end of the decade. Is there ANY good news with these people? Well,
time has proves us right: they
were indeed a shower of gangsters, and Hubble has lived to tell the tale.
IMRO - The informative and well presented website of the
Irish Music Rights Organization. This next link is to the sub page, IMRO members on the web
Irish
Showbands and Groups Archive - Highest
recommendation for this well presented and informative site, and much
appreciation to Francis for the great job he's doing.
I'm sure all Irish
musicians would echo these sentiments.
Andy Irvine - That unique, charismatic, amazingly talented and lovely man who played such a vital role in the great Irish folk band Planxty and has contributed so much to so many inspired productions over the years. Andy continues to tour and record and has recently gone online with his own website. Great audio/video downloads and much more. Highest recommendation.
The Luke Kelly - Something of a rarity these days, this Irish pub is actually run by an Irishman, Paul O'Connor from
Dublin. The Luke Kelly is located in Cyprus in Ayia Napa and is a must if you plan to visit the Island. There you'll find a friendly Irish atmosphere with great live music, and you can sit in the corner "happy as a pig in shite".
Paddy Keenan - Paddy & myself are old friends, and we firstly met on the Irish folk scene back in the early '80s.
One of the greatest ever exponents of the uilleann pipes and low whistle, Paddy is also a great character and a hellova
nice fellow. I recently met him along with musical partner, the brilliant Tommy O'Sullivan when they shared top billing
with Bachelors Walk at a concert in Germany. There was a mighty session after the gig and Paddy and Tommy were truly
great on the night. I send my heartfelt thanks Paddy for his inspired rendition and dedication of "The Kerry Reel".
Paul Kelly
- Graphic artist par excellence and designer of the Jimi Slevin main page logo, Paul designed the cover
graphics & booklet for my Home To The Heart CD. Mucho greetings and thanks to Paul & Phil. (e-mail)
Lone Star Webstation - Here's a big, comprehensive and impeccably presented website that features links to so many interesting people and places and specializes in the music of Lucinda Williams, Townes Van
Zandt, Bob Dylan and
others too numerous to mention. 25 out of 10 to Marq for putting it all together.
Matt Manning
- Matt's site is not currently available. Matt, who hails from Cork in the south of Ireland and presently resides in California is a veteran of the Irish music scene,
and continues to write and perform his own compositions. Top notch stuff!
McGuinness
Irish Pub Basel
- is perhaps the best Irish pub in Europe and hot contender for the prestigious
"European Pub of the Year" award. Basel's McGuinness pub is a must for
your next visit to that beautiful city with its opulent but tasteful decor,
great Guinness and a selection of Irish whiskeys that's second to none. Boasting upcoming live acts like the Wolfe Tones (who I supported there
in December 2007 - great band and very nice people), The Dubliners, The Chieftains
AND the famous Irish traditional duo of Mick Davis & Jimi Slevin, the live
music is indeed world class! Highest recommendation!
Christy Moore - The man and "folk legend" who founded the great Irish folk band Planxty
and has contributed so much to the rich tapestry of Irish folk music. There's something about Christy's persona that simply puts a
smile on my face and conjures up scores of warm and welcome memories. Christy has never been afraid to speak out for justice and people's rights, and has actively supported many worthy causes. This is the link to his new official website which is informative and well presented.
Tom Petty
- The Heartbreakers are one of the best rock bands ever, and Tom is simply a
great guy and amazing talent who I've always admired. Like this website spoke
out against the Iraq war fiasco even before and during the ill-fated and ill-conceived
invasion, Tom recently spoke out about Mr. Bush and his cohorts: "The war in Iraq is shameful. Whether you're pro or con Bush, you've got to
admit: The guy lied. And he continues to do so. I can't understand why he's just
not run out on a rail. To send somebody's kids off and have them killed for no
good reason - he's going to have his day in hell for that. I wouldn't want that
karma. When you kill somebody's little sister with a missile, he's going to hate
you forever. And the next generation will hate you even more". Well said,
Tom!
John
Pilger.com Here's
a link to the website of Australian journalist and film-maker John Pilger. I've
always admired his honesty and integrity in telling the truth about what's
really going on behind the scenes in world politics. He told the truth about the
invasion of Iraq long before it took place, and now he's telling it all over
again with the impending invasion of Iran with all the whitewash, the lies &
deceit, the spin and conditioning that we're being fed all over again! That and
much more, John's site is well worth a long visit and has my highest recommendation.
Jody Pollard - Born and raised in Dublin, Jody has over 30 years of experience playing electric, slide & acoustic guitar, bass and mandolin. A prolific songwriter and vocalist, he has been a vital part of many top bands in Ireland, Britain, France, Belgium, Holland, The Greek Isles, Canada and the US, including Skid Row and Elmer
Fudd. He has also played the Reading music festival and London's Mean Fiddler. Fudd were one of the best bands to have played in the legendary "Cave" in Dublin's Stella House in the late 60s where I first met Jody during the Crossroads days. (see biography) Jody has also worked with Joe Dolan, Phil
Lynnott, Colm Wilkinson, Benny White, Sean Keane, Nicky Ryan, and the great Rob Strong.
Apart from being a very nice guy, he is one of Ireland's finest guitarists.
Gary Moore: Lord of the Strings - A highly recommended site for anyone with an interest in Gary Moore. This site
is very well presented by Zoltan from Hungary and indeed does justice to the Irish guitar genius who has consistently delighted audiences with his inspired guitar playing and continues to tour all over the world. An experience I have in common with Gary is that I followed him, after Paul Chapman, as Skid Row guitarist in 1976 and spent 8 months working with the band in Ireland. MP3 samples of this final 3-piece Skid Row with Brush
Shiels, Nollaig Bridgeman and myself can be heard
in the Audio Samples page. (site temporarily offline)
Turlough O'Carolan - A well produced and presented site for those who love the man and his music. my acoustic
guitar repertoire includes some Carolan pieces.
The Heinz Pöhlmann Website - Heinz is an old friend of mine and apart from being a great guy, is a talented singer-songwriter and bandleader. This is a link to his new website. See the Audio Samples page.
Mark J. Prendergast - Author of 'Irish Rock Roots' - the definitive history of rock music in Ireland. See the
Reviews page.
Brush Shiels - The man who started it all for so many, and founder of the original and best Skid Row which included
the talents of Gary Moore, Nollaig Bridgeman, Paul Chapman, Timmy Creedon and one's self. Later incarnations of the band included John Brady (ex Peggy's Leg), Jody Pollard, Davy Gaynor & Pat
O'Farrell. See the Biography and Audio Samples pages.
Jon Stewart - and the wonderfully iconoclastic "Daily Show" (which naturally airs once a week). I love the guy. This
is a link to a page of quotes from Jon and a host of other fab smartasses involved with the show.
"With the situation in Iraq growing ever more dangerous, the 34-member Coalition of The Willing are, one by one, dropping out to join the other coalition known as Most of The Rest of The World".
x-andra
-
is an inspired
musician from Ireland who writes and records her own music at home using a midi
keyboard and multitrack computer software. In a previous incarnation she has
mixed live sound for a host of acts including Chuck Berry, Ronnie Scott, Eric
Clapton, The Boomtown Rats, Paul Brady, The Chieftans, Alan Stivell, Janis Ian,
Don Everly AND The Jimi Slevin Band! She also lectured at Queen's University
Belfast before retiring to concentrate on music & sailing. x-andra recently visited Riteroad Music Studio to give a selection of her music
the finishing touch. The resulting 12 tracks will soon be released in CD format.
I include an mp3 Bay of Love
which features myself on guitar and Dave MacHale on
percussion - x-andra did all the rest.
x-andra is not only a very talented lady but one of the nicest people I have had the
pleasure to work with, and I wish her every happiness and success in the future.
This is a link to her new
website.
